Ford Issues Recall of Hundreds of Thousands of Escape & Fusion Vehicles, Citing Rollaway Risk
If you drive a 2013 – 2016 Fusion or a 2013 – 2014 Escape, you may have a dangerous gearshift problem on your hands. Ford has recently recalled these vehicles because of an error with a bushing intended to keep the car’s shifter cable in place. This can cause you to believe your vehicle is in park when it is actually in neutral, and it can also lead your car to shift out of park and into neutral. Either scenario could result in your car rolling away or colliding with another object, person, or vehicle while you are not in it.
Though Ford claims there have been no reported injuries or accident caused by this issue, drivers should exercise great caution and visit a dealership immediately in order to have the potentially problematic bushing fixed or replaced. Until you are able to replace or fix the bushing, you may wish to use your car’s parking brake in order to keep it from drifting away or shifting out of park.
