What to Do After a Motorcycle Accident

Nobody knows when they are going to be in an accident, so there is no real way to plan for it. However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be prepared for when it does occur.

At Mathias Raphael PLLC Accident & Injury Lawyers, our Dallas personal injury attorneys represent all kinds of motorcycle accidents and accident injury cases. We know what to look for, what is important, and what steps you should take to protect yourself. Hopefully, you will never have to take our advice, but if you do, knowing what to do after a motorcycle accident is essential.

Follow these easy steps to ensure your interests are protected after a motorcycle accident:

  1. Make sure everyone is okay, including yourself – Right after the accident you will probably ask if everyone is okay. Even if you are feeling fine, you might be injured from the incident. Adrenaline can mask injuries or pain in these kinds of situations. Make sure you see a doctor and make sure that there are no injuries that could cause major problems down the road.
  2. Take tons of pictures – Most people know to take pictures of the damage and the accident, but you should also take pictures of the surroundings, street signs, angles, and more. If you can, use a smartphone to take pictures. Smartphones have built-in GPS that records where the accident happened.
  3. Never apologize, even if you feel rude – As soon as you say the words, “I’m sorry,” you are admitting guilt. Even if the other person knows that they are at fault and you are just trying to be polite, keep your mouth shut. Later on, the other party could try to make you liable and use your own words against you as proof.
  4. Get everyone’s contact information – when we say everyone, we mean everyone. Don’t just collect the other driver’s information. Make sure you get the information of any passengers, the police officer if there was one involved and any witnesses to the accident. Having as many references as possible can come in handy if the other driver tries to fudge the story later on.
